2nd Annual IU Entrepreneurial
Awards of Distinction.

AVON, INDIANA Harlan
Bakeries, Inc. was honored as a winner in the Growth
category at the 2nd Annual Indiana University Kelley
School of Business Entrepreneurial Awards of Distinction
(IUEAD). The IUEADs were held on October 19th at the
Indiana Roof Ballroom in Indianapolis. This is the eleventh
consecutive year that Harlan has been recognized by
the Johnson Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
At this year's IUEAD ceremony, Harlan
was also recognized for its continuing commitment to
growth, innovation and the spirit of entrpreneurship
and was one of three companies to recieve finalist awards
in all three [Growth, Spirit and Innovation] categories.
Harlan currently employes more than 800 persons from
Avon, Indianapolis and surrounding Indiana communities
and has fostered sustainable growth through flexibility
in innovation, highly efficient production and strategic
acquisitions.
The IUEADs recognized 68 finalists
out of 140 companies that had applied earlier in the
year. From the finalists, 24 winners were selected as
the best in one of the following categories: Spirit,
Innovation, Growth and Social Enterprise. The companies
recognized employ 6,000 Hoosiers and generate an agregate
annual revenue of $850 million. Forty percent are Life
Sciences firms, and 30 percent are less than a decade
old.
The Growth Award recognized companies
with at least 35 percent growth for a period of two
consecutive years. The Spirit Award honors companies
for the igh standards in risk-taking and perserverance
through various challenges and obstacles. The Innovation
Award identifies companies that pioneered new systems,
products, or best practices to adapt to the ever changing
business climate. The Social Enterprise Award, new to
this year's ceremony, recognizes non-profit companies
with social missions that have adopted entrepreneurial
attributes.

of the Johnson Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation
and the Jack M. Gill Chair of Entrepreneurship in the
Kelley School of Business stated, "The IU Entrepreneurial
Awards of Distinction celebrates and showcases the tremendous
achievements of Indiana's entrepreneurial companies.
This is a unique opportunity to celebrate some of the
true greatness that exists in the state of Indiana by
recognizing the hard work and tenacity that is evident
in these award winning companies."

Inc., established in 1991, produces Harlan Bigger Better
Bagels® and Harlan Giant Gourmet Bagels® brands,
private-label bagels, and products for in-store bakeries.
Harlan now produces more than just bagels and supplies
our customers with pies (meringue, crème, fruit
and specialty); cakes; cookies; muffins; and breads.
In addition, Harlan is a contract manufacturer for many
national companies. Harlan operates six production facilities,
including it's 300,000+ square foot facility and corporate
office in Avon, Ind. Other production facilities are
