October, 2001 - Harlan Bakeries,
Inc., wins Indiana Growth 100 Award
Avon, Indiana - The
Johnson Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation,
part of Indiana University's Kelley School of Business,
recognized Indiana's leading high potential, high growth
companies at its 8th Annual Growth 100 Dinner and Awards
Banquet Thursday evening, October 25, 2001, at the Indiana
Roof Ballroom in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Hugh P. Harlan and Doug H. Harlan
of Harlan Bakeries, Inc., in Avon, Indiana, were among
the winners. Harlan Bakeries, Inc., has received the
Growth 100 Award for the 7th consecutive year.
Harlan Bakeries, Inc., was founded
in 1991 and currently employs 325 persons from this
community. Hugh and Doug Harlan state that they are
proud to be recognized as an Indiana Growth 100 company.
"Besides the personal satisfaction, it is a great
honor to be recognized as a private company."
The Growth 100 award honors Indiana's
rapid growth, high potential entrepreneurial companies
with annual sales of at least $1 million. This year,
77 highly qualified privately owned companies were selected
from 200 applications across the state. Growth 100 companies
are identified through an analysis process that is based
upon High Performance Organization research conducted
by The Johnson Center. The screening process may include
interviews with the company's CEO and key management
team members and often includes a site visit.
"This year's 2001 Growth 100
awardees have an average annual sales of $9.9 million,
with a growth rate averaging 60%," said Elizabeth
J. Gatewood, Ph.D., The Johnson Center director. "These
entrepreneurial companies have a strong impact on the
state, not only economically but also through employment
and community development.
We recognize these companies because
they represent the entrepreneurial spirit of Indiana
business. This award validates all the hard work they've
put into their companies. It says to them, their employees
and their customers that they are doing things right.
Indiana continues to be a viable business
competitor on the national and global level. We are
a major player in the industrial, service, retail, and
technology areas."
