History and Growth

Harlan Bakeries, Inc. (HBI) is a family owned business that produces and supplies premium quality Kosher bagels and bagel related products. Harlan's own product line was introduced in the Indianapolis Area in August of 1991. Currently Harlan's products are found in most grocers' frozen food sections in many midwestern states. Harlan also produces bagel chips, mini bagels, private label bagels, and health bars.

In 1996, HBI expanded its facilities to include a Frozen Dough Line to provide bagels for Einstein/Noah Bagel Corporation. This tremendous growth opportunity was very exciting. More recently, in 1999 Harlan's added a production line for McDonalds' bagels.

Our bagels are all over the United States and we are proud to supply our many customers and consumers.

In January 2000, HBI acquired Kyger Bakery Products, Inc. (KBPI) Kyger produces shelf stable pies and cakes. The Kyger plant is located approximately 50 miles north of Avon, Indiana on the south side of Lafayette, Indiana. Currently KBPI has 83 full time employees. Our total pie and cake sales for the year 2000 was 8.6 million, and by May of 2001 we have surpassed that number. We are growing.
