September, 2001 - Harlan Bakeries,
Inc. Official Statement on the Terrorist Attack on America
Our National Tragedy has broken our
hearts but not our spirits. Our thoughts and prayers
are with all families across the nation who have faced
this immense assault on our people and our National
Security. Our thoughts and hearts are with all who have
experienced such great loss through this assault.
Our bakery is committed to keeping
our customers supplied with our products. Keeping food
flowing into our groceries and markets will help to
keep some sense of security with food. And many may
be looking to comfort themselves with food.
We do recognize and have all felt
hopeless, helpless, angry and scared as these events
tragically unfolded. We also know that taking a positive
action helps to pull us through these difficult days.
We have listed some suggestions for action taking. First
take care of yourself and your immediate family. You
can do this best by talking and listening to each other.
Encourage all family members to talk about their feelings
and share yours.
If someone is having difficulty putting
their thoughts into verbalizations, use a pen and paper
and write every thought and feeling. If you have children
encourage them to talk or draw pictures of what they
saw or are feeling. At a time like this remember, all
feelings are just that, feelings, and we are all better
off to talk about them, than to keep them inside.
Because of the emotional impact of
watching and listening to this traumatic event, please
remember to keep your focus when you are driving your
car or other motor vehicle.

And last but not least, if you own
an American Flag, please display it at half-staff. If
you do not own a flag, purchase one and display it.
All Americans should display our flag proudly as a clear
symbol of our faith in our nation and our solid belief
in our country and our people.
Again, our hearts are broken,
but not our spirits. Let's send all our love and concerns
for all who have been hurt or lost in this tragic assault
on our nation. And let us keep our spirits focused on
regaining our United States of American and our National
Security.
